Businesses can use the POS software on the Zettle Go app, which can be downloaded on Android, iPhone, and tablet devices for free. Zettle’s POS software is quite convenient since anyone with access to the mobile app can open an account and instantly access their business’ finances, sales revenue, and products and services from any location.
Here’s a list of Zettle’s POS software’s main features.
Zettle POS Features
Offline mode: Since the POS is cloud-based, businesses can use the mobile app by connecting to a wireless or 3G/4G network. However, the app can collect transaction and payment data even when the internet goes down. When the app is connected to the internet again, it will automatically sync the changes made while offline.
Multiple payment methods: Zettle’s POS software supports all the major payment options, such as credit and debit cards (Visa, Maestro, MasterCard, Visa Electron, American Express, Discover, Union Pay, etc.), magstripe, digital wallets (Google, Samsung and Apple), and chip & pin.
Data reports: The app automatically creates real-time data reports based on transactions, sales revenue, and inventory tracking analytics. Businesses can download these reports whenever they want to and filter out the exact timeframe they’re interested in. They can download a daily, weekly, monthly, or specific timeframe report.
Sale analytics: The app automatically analyses the sale trends daily. These analytics can help companies develop business plans and track their success as they filter out the most and least popular products or services and the regular sale changes.
QR code payments: Besides the regular transaction methods, companies interested in adding a QR code payment option can download Zettle’s mobile app and use it on iPad devices. This payment option is only available with this type of tablet.
Invoices: Zettle’s POS software allows businesses to create digital invoices for their customers and send them via email.
Employee management: The app has a pre-installed staff management feature that businesses can use to manage their staff’s work schedule, vacation, sick and leave days, and overall work performance.
PCI PTS certified: All of Zettle’s POS software and hardware devices are certified by PCI PTS 4.1, which is considered the highest level of security in the tech industry. The POS can detect any type of fraudulent payment within seconds.
Security encryption: Zettle’s POS has a second layer of security protection. The software keeps the cardholder’s data safe and private with security encryption created by cryptographic-based servers.
Fast transaction processing: Zettle has one of the fastest transaction processing software. If you connect your Zettle POS with a PayPal business account, the funds will be available several minutes after the transaction is processed with Zettle Go or one of the card readers.
Transaction chargeback: Zettle provides transaction protection by offering coverage for eligible chargebacks of up to £250 per month (Manual Card Entry transactions do not apply).
PayPal debit card: Zettle provides debit cards issued by MasterCard for any business interested in owning a PayPal-based card. This card allows businesses to have quick and easy transaction access and regularly earn cashback whenever they purchase a product or service online or in person.
Multiple locations: The POS software can be synced on multiple hardware devices placed in various locations. This is convenient for chain businesses as it allows managers to track the business’s performance on multiple devices from the same mobile app.

Zettle by PayPal’s Tap To Pay
In 2023, Zettle by PayPal introduced a new contactless payment method called Tap to Pay. This method is useful for hospitality and retail businesses that want to limit the number of hardware devices their staff uses for orders and payment. The biggest advantage is that the tap-to-pay function is used via smartphones, so employees can carry the devices while on the move.
The service can be used by businesses using Zettle’s POS software and the Zettle Go mobile app on the following device types:
- Android smartphones that are at least from the 8.0 generation. The phone must have a pre-installed version of Google Play Services and NFC.
- iPhones that are at least from the XS generation or newer versions.
Let’s find out how to use the tap-to-pay feature.
How to Use Zettle by PayPal Tap to Pay
- Install Zettle’s mobile app on your Android or iPhone device.
- Click the “Tap to Pay” button under Settings. You’ll be redirected to a new page where you should click on “Activate.”
- Click on a service or product you’d like to add to the shopping button, and the price will appear. The second option is manually entering the specific amount your customer needs to pay.
- After the amount appears on the screen, your customer can use either a debit or credit card or a Google, Samsung, or Apple digital wallet. Keep in mind that they need to make one tap on the rear side of the device, not the front.
- The digital wallet or card should be in close contact with the device for a few seconds until the device starts to vibrate and “Approved” appears on the screen. If you take it out too fast, the smartphone won’t connect to the card/digital wallet.
- Once the phone approves the transaction, you’ll be able to send the payer a digital receipt via email or SMS.
Tap to Pay Payments with PIN
In some cases, the digital wallet or card used by the customer might require them to enter their personal PIN password. Entering a PIN is obligatory only in the following cases:
- The transaction exceeds the cardholder’s daily limits for contactless payment transactions without using their PIN password;
- Regular security verification by the card providers.
If a PIN code is required, the screen on your smartphone device will change so the cardholder can tap their PIN. However, keep in mind that some cards might have to be placed inside a card payment reader. In this case, the cardholder won’t be able to pay with the tap-to-pay feature and must use Zettle’s card reader if you have one. In case you don’t, they’ll have to use a different payment option.
Prices and Fees
The Zettle Go app can be installed on Android, iPhone, and tablet devices. It’s free and can be downloaded via Google and Apple’s App Stores.
Businesses are obliged to pay a fixed fee of 1.75% per transaction if they process a payment via Zettle Go’s app or POS software and hardware. There are three other fixed rates and fees for Zettle users:
- QR codes processed via PayPal: 1.75% per transaction
- Invoices: 2.5% per invoice
- Payment online links: 2.5% per transaction
Hardware Prices and Fees
Businesses also have the option to purchase supplementary hardware alongside the POS, which includes items like cash registers, QR code scanners, and thermal receipt printers.
Tailor-Made Kits
Store owners can create tailor-made kits with hardware devices of their own choice. In this kit, Zettle includes free-of-charge setup and syncing of the new hardware. Prices start at £189 plus additional VAT delivery rates and fees.
Payment Terminal Device
The payment terminal device comes with pre-built POS software. It accepts various payment methods, such as credit or debit cards (Visa Electron, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Maestro), digital wallets (Apple, Google, and Android), magstripe, and chip & pin. Businesses can also ask Zettle to install an additional QR code scanning tool, which can be installed on an iPad device for a tailor-made price.
Prices start at £149 plus additional VAT delivery rates and fees.
Zettle Card Reader
Zettle’s portable card payment reader is sleek and straightforward to use. It can be connected to Zettle’s POS software with Bluetooth. Businesses can also add a countertop device for an additional price.
The card reader accepts contactless payments, such as all major credit and debit cards, chip & pin, and Google, Apple, and Samsung digital wallets.
Prices start at £29 (plus VAT expenses) but can change depending on whether the business also wants a countertop device included in the offer.
