Amazon Pay is an online payment service offered by Amazon that allows shoppers to pay with their Amazon accounts on websites that have it integrated. By using Amazon Pay, shoppers can complete their purchases quickly and easily without creating a new account or entering their billing and shipping information every time they make a purchase.
The service also enables merchants to increase their sales and customer engagement by offering a trusted and streamlined checkout experience.
Amazon Pay supports various payment methods, including credit cards and debit cards, and operates in multiple countries, making it a convenient and accessible payment solution for both shoppers and merchants.
Let’s explore it in more detail.

Prices/Fees
The fees associated with using Amazon Pay are based on transactions and include handling and authorisation costs.
When customers make a purchase, the transaction fee, taxes (if any), and the authorisation fee ($0.30) are automatically charged.
To better understand the authorisation fee, consider the following examples of transactions involving the same amount of money ($10), but completed using various approaches:
Suppose you are paid using a payment method that was issued in a country other than the United States. In that case, Amazon Pay will charge you a cross-border processing fee in addition to the authorization cost discussed before, as well as tax if it is required.
Consider, once more, how a transaction of ten dollars would be handled differently depending on the kind of product or service being purchased:
Amazon Pay applies a fee of $20.00 plus value-added tax where eligible if a shopper requests to dispute a chargeback claim. Please refer to Managing chargebacks for any additional information.
Shoppers will also be repaid the following transaction costs, if they apply, in the event that a refund is issued to them:
- The charge for handling orders within the country (for example, the 2.9% fee).
- The charge for processing transactions across international borders (for example, the 3.9% fee).
Both the authorization cost and the disputed chargeback fee are non-refundable.
Services
Amazon Pay offers a range of services to both customers and businesses, so let’s see what they are.
A-To-Z Guarantee
Amazon Pay A-to-Z Guarantee is a service that helps protect Amazon Pay customers’ personal and payment information for their purchases on third-party websites. The service ensures that customers receive their purchases in the condition they were promised and that they are eligible for refunds or other resolutions if their orders don’t meet the expected standards.
You are eligible to file a claim under the Amazon Pay A-to-z Guarantee if one of the following scenarios applies:
- If the merchant didn’t deliver the item within 30 days of the order date, or three calendar days after the maximum scheduled delivery time;
- You got the product, but faulty, broken, or significantly different than what was displayed in the seller’s offer;
- You have followed the conditions established between you as the buyer and the seller and returned the product to the retailer. Nevertheless, the retailer didn’t give the customer the reimbursement that was agreed upon once they had received the item.
Smarter Pay Cloud
SmarterPay Cloud is a cloud-based payment processing platform that enables merchants to safely process payments online with the help of Amazon’s advanced machine learning and fraud detection capabilities. It offers a range of features, including customizable checkout pages, real-time transaction monitoring, and integration with other Amazon services, such as Amazon Pay and Alexa Shopping. Moreover, it supports multiple payment methods, including credit and debit cards, bank transfers, and mobile wallets.
The SmarterPay Cloud is accessible through any web browser and protected by multi-factor authentication or memorable word verification.
Getting Payments
To receive payments, you first need to have a merchant account and integrate Amazon Pay into your website or mobile app using Amazon’s APIs and SDKs.
When a customer makes a payment using Amazon Pay, the funds will be transferred to your account on the next regularly scheduled payment day. It typically takes anywhere from three to five business days for the funds to show up in your account.
Making Payments
To make a payment, click on the Amazon Pay button, enter your login information, and choose a payment method. Amazon Pay accepts the following credit and debit cards:
- Visa
- Mastercard
- Discover
- JCB
- American Express
- Diners Club
In some situations, however, customers are only able to use Visa and Mastercard, which will be explained in the checkout process.
The Amazon.com Store Card is another payment method that only applies to certain merchants.
A great benefit that’s especially useful for repeat Amazon shoppers are choosing to save your payment and shipping information so it’s automatically filled out every time customers make a purchase.
Amazon.com Gift Cards are not a suitable form of payment and can only be used to buy eligible products and services on Amazon.com and some other associated websites.
Integrations
Amazon Pay offers various integrations with third-party websites, e-commerce platforms, and other applications. These integrations allow merchants to easily add Amazon Pay as a payment option for their customers so they can pay using their Amazon accounts in a fast and convenient manner.
Many e-commerce platforms, such as Shopify, BigCommerce, and WooCommerce, already have pre-built plugins and extensions that allow merchants to integrate Amazon Pay in a few simple clicks. Unfortunately, Amazon Pay is not compatible with some platforms, which include Square Online, Wix, or Squarespace.
Other ways to integrate Amazon Pay is through the use of Amazon’s APIs and SDKs that developers can use to integrate Amazon Pay into their websites or mobile apps, or integrate it with other Amazon services, such as Alexa Shopping and Amazon Advertising.
