Company Background
Viva Wallet was initially set up in 2000 by a small and enthusiastic group of experts in technology, UX and payments. This inspired group began developing mobile apps, electronic services and payment platforms for banks and other financial institutions. They also developed large transactional systems for the airline and telecom industries.
Over the next ten years, this small band of experts tirelessly worked to develop and deliver next generation payment services. Makis Antypas, CIO of Viva Wallet, says that the company “is the first fully cloud-based digital payments institution in Europe.” They use Microsoft Azure to run their operations which ensures there’s no downtime for users. Their systems automatically adapt to changes in the quantity of customer transactions.
In June 2018, Viva Wallet announced a 0% acquiring fee for merchants who use Viva Wallet acquiring services. Dr Yannis Larios, Business Development Director at Viva Wallet, said: “We always strive to combine our top-notch cloud-based processing infrastructure and our principal membership for acquiring and issuing services, to benefit our merchant base in Europe. Today, we give our retail merchants the unique opportunity to have zero charges for all their Visa and MasterCard transactions, which are made by European consumers, when they use their funds through our business debit cards.”
Viva Wallet is a Principal Member of MasterCard and Visa for issuing and acquiring, and partners companies such as Microsoft, Alipay and PAX. It has a presence in the UK, Greece, Cyprus and Belgium and is now looking to open offices in other European countries.
