Company Background
Web-Merchant was established in 1997 and has its head office in Kingston upon Hull, UK and processing offices in Cambridge and Amsterdam. The company was founded to make it quicker, easier and cheaper for businesses to take payments. To date, Web-Merchant has processed over 1.5 billion transactions.
Web-Merchant was the first company in the UK that could provide online merchant services, and, for a few years, it was the only company. In 1997, it partnered with KLELine, which is a subsidiary of the major French banking group, Banque Paribas. Web-Merchant partnered with NatWest and RBS in 1999 and in 2005 began dealing with other acquiring banks, including Elavon and Bank of Israel. Today, the company has relationships with many acquiring banks worldwide.
Web-Merchant Services process online and phone payments worldwide. Not only were they the first company to advertise processing costs online, they were also the first to provide would be merchants the opportunity to apply for an account online. Customer service is very important to Web-Merchant which is why each merchant has a dedicated account manager with Web-Merchant and with their acquiring bank.
